Fund-Raising

Fundraising is a never-ending task for organisations such as the DRG and a large amount of members' time has to be devoted to it. Most fund-raising by members is for the benefit of their own Section, but the Group as a whole also raises funds and gratefully accepts donations. We depend heavily on donations to allow us to maintain our service to the community. Listed below are some of the major contributions we have received recently.

We are most grateful for all contributions. They all go towards helping us provide a service to the community - not just the adventurous moor walker.

If you, your group or your organisation would like to help the work of the Dartmoor Rescue Group, please contact us:- info@dartmoor-rescue.org

St Margaret's School, Exeter organised and ran the Ten Tors Managers Millennium Challenge in July 2000 as a sponsored event to raise funds for the Group. Twenty Five teams made up of Ten Tors team managers and trainers from around the country battled against atrocious weather to complete the Challenge. Our appreciation goes to the organisers and admiration to the participants for braving such conditions and raising over £4,700 for the DRG. We are not sure whether it's bravado or they are being egged on by the youngsters they train, but they did it again in 2002 and raised a further £4523.50! A huge ‘Thank you’ goes out to them!!

In November 2002 the Clinical Trials Unit Ethics Committee donated £1000 to the DRG for which we are grateful!

Tiverton High School had hoped to take part in the Wrinkley’s challenge in 2002 but unfortunately were not able to. Undeterred, they undertook their own walk of 17 miles (20 Tors) and raised £350 for DRG! Well done THS!!

We always talk about and mention the larger donations – but that’s not what it’s all about! A large number of individuals and organisation donate to the DRG – it all adds up and helps us to continue to support the Dartmoor community, both residents and visitors alike. The following valuable contributions have been received:-

in 2002, £955 in memory of Major Harry Mann Wakelin

in 2002, £10 from Mr & Mrs Rippon

in 2002, £15 from Mrs Crook

The list goes on – and our thanks go out to ALL of those above, and to those who would rather remain anonymous!

The staff in the Plymouth office of the Royal & Sun Alliance collected £189.80 for the DRG . Our thanks go to them for selecting us as the beneficiary of their "dressing down" day at the office.

The Marjorie & Geoffrey Jones Charitable trust  donated £6000 towards the cost of equipment and running the Group, our sincere thanks go to them.

Exeter University Student Rag adopted the Rescue Group as one of it's charities to support in 1999. The DRG benefited to the tune of £925 for which we are most grateful.

The Dartmoor Rescue Group is extremely grateful for the support of the Devon Guide Association over the twelve months to March 1999. Over £8000 was raised by Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, not to mention the Guiders and Trefoil Guilds, to support the work of the DRG. This has been a wonderful achievement and our sincere thanks go out to them.
